Cooking is a true passion of ours. Whether it’s making our favorite dishes or trying new recipes, we could stay in the kitchen all day. This week, we were craving seafood and decided to try this Spiced Shrimp with Avocado Oil recipe from MyRecipes.com using the fresh shrimp we bought at a local market. Finding a decent shrimp recipe is a rarity, so we were extremely pleased when the shrimp turned out delicious! Using AVOCARE’s Extra Virgin Garlic Avocado Oil in place of regular avocado oil enhanced the flavor in a big way. With a hint of roasted garlic, our oil added in a kick that can’t be beat. Try it out for dinner this week!

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 teaspoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1 tablespoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1 1/2 tablespoons AVOCARE Extra Virgin Garlic Avocado Oil, divided

Lime wedges

Preparation

Sprinkle shrimp with sugar and salt. Combine chili powder, cumin, coriander, and oregano. Lightly coat shrimp with spice mixture. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 teaspoon of oil and half of shrimp; sauté for 4 minutes or until done. Remove from pan. Repeat procedure with 1 teaspoon of oil and remaining shrimp. Place shrimp on a platter; drizzle remaining 2 1/2 teaspoons oil over shrimp. Serve with lime wedges.

We’re Thankful for Avocado Oil

As Thanksgiving approaches, we couldn’t be more excited. Each year, we look forward to this holiday because it gives us the opportunity to give thanks and spend time with family while, of course, eating delicious food. However, it’s very easy to lose sight of eating healthfully during this gluttonous holiday, which is why we incorporate our Extra Virgin Avocado Oils in every way possible. To keep your dishes lighter this Thanksgiving, rid your meal of canola and olive oil and utilize avocado oil instead. Need some inspiration? Here are three ways to work avocado oil into your Thanksgiving feast:

AVO Turkey

While many recipes recommend coating your turkey with canola oil, this can make the turkey full of hydrogenated oil, which is not good for your health. Using avocado oil will not only create a delicious and juicy turkey, but will also leave you feeling light so you can enjoy that delicious pecan pie without feel guilty. You can even deep-fry your turkey in avocado oil!

AVO Veggies

Will you be cooking carrots, Brussels sprouts or any other vegetable side dishes this Thanksgiving? Choosing to toss your vegetables in avocado oil will taste better than using olive or canola oil. AVO Sweets

After you’ve recovered from the delectable turkey and tasty side dishes, dessert will be waiting for you. And with its light flavor, avocado oil is the perfect oil to use when baking pies, cakes and other sweet treats. Try our delicious Avocado Oil Cake with Fresh Berry Compote – it certainly does not disappoint!

Start Your Morning Right: Avocados

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; therefore it’s critical that it be filled with nourishment. However, between taking care of kids and getting ready for work each morning, it’s easy to let a proper breakfast fall by the wayside. Thankfully, we’ve got a simple solution for you: avocados. Packed with healthy fats and protein, avocados provide a delicious and easy supplement for the simplest of meals. Check out a few of our favorite avo-filled breakfast ideas.

Avocado Toast

We love this idea because it’s as easy as it sounds – simply spread avocado over a piece of whole-wheat bread and you’re on your way! You can even spruce things up by adding a dollop of greek yogurt, herbs or cheese atop the avocado spread. Simple, filling and delicious – our mouths are watering already.

Avocado Smoothies

Adding an avocado to your morning smoothie is one of the easiest ways to get your fill of protein without sacrificing great taste and flavor. In fact, the unique texture of avocados will actually make your smoothie a lot more enjoyable to drink.

Avocado Scrambled Eggs

One of the best things about scrambled eggs is their simplicity. Within 10 minutes of preparing, you have a fulfilling and healthy breakfast supplement to jumpstart the rest your day. Shake up your routine by throwing an avocado into the mix. Grease down your frying pan with some AVOCARE Extra Virgin Avocado Oil before making the eggs and once they’re done, spoon in some diced avocado pieces – you’ll be amazed by the creamy texture it provides.
